Why You Need Individual Health Insurance

April 4, 2017 - 2 minutes read

Health insurance has been a heated topic in the media for several years now, with the healthcare reform. That is a topic for another day, but it has helped bring attention to the importance of having individual health insurance. You may be thinking, “But I never get sick, why would I need to pay for health insurance?” Here are four reasons why you need health insurance.

  1. Your Family – You have to think about the people who are impacted should something catastrophic happen. If you came down with a serious illness, how would your family pay for it? This is where health insurance comes in. It helps to offset the cost of medical bills.
  2. Stress – Even if you are healthy, you probably worry sometimes if you had to have an overnight stay how you would pay to do so. Without health insurance, one overnight stay can get into the thousands. Having health insurance can help give you peace of mind.
  3. Chronic Illness – If you come down with a chronic illness, your medical expenses could be extravagant. Continuing medications and treatments, in addition to doctor visits can add up quickly. As of now, even if you have a chronic illness already, you cannot be turned down for health insurance.
  4. Gaps in Coverage – Let’s say you are involved in an accident that is not your fault. The other person’s insurance will pay for your medical bills right? Only if they have insurance, and then only if they have enough. If it is a bad accident, chances are it won’t be.

Individual health insurance is important to have for all of those reasons, plus many more. We can help you sort through your options and find something that makes the most sense for you and your family.
